Starting/Main Jobs (Total of 6 Jobs to choose from)
Warrior
Specializing in the arts of battle, Warriors (WAR) are masters of all aspects of melee combat.
Warrior is a very versatile melee job that can equip almost all of the types of weapons available in the game, and thus can fill a number of different roles in a party. Warriors have the ability to wear heavy armor and tank, protecting their comrades from enemy attacks. They are also masters of the powerhouse Axe and Great Axe weapons and are among the most powerful damage dealers in the game. Players starting the game as a Warrior receive an Onion Sword.
Monk
With their bodies that double as deadly weapons, Monks (MNK) attack enemies with explosive strength. As one of the six standard jobs, Monk can be chosen by players at the very start of the game. Monk is designed as a Hand-to-Hand weapon specialist, and is capable of wreaking havoc with fast and furious punches. Preserving Final Fantasy tradition, Monk retains many classic abilities including Martial Arts, Chakra, Max HP Boost, and Counter. Complete with a full set of powerful weapon skills, Monks are a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Players starting the game as a Monk receive a White Belt.
White Mage
Armed with the most efficient recovery spells, White Mages (WHM) can ensure a party's survival in the most dire of situations. With the ability to utilize the most potent spells from the Cure, Regen, Raise, and Bar Spell families, White Mages are the premier healers in the game, and are nearly indispensable when forming a party.
Despite the gentle demeanor of their class, White Mages are far from inept in combat. If necessity dictates, White Mages may arm themselves with powerful hammers and durable shields in order to rain down punishment upon their enemies.
Players starting the game as a White Mage receive an Onion Rod and a Scroll of Cure.
Black Mage
Through devastating magic spells, Black Mages (BLM) bring tremendous firepower to the battlefield. A Black Mage's job is simply to cast offensive spells and destroy enemies. Although they are known for their Elemental Magic, they also possess a few highly-valued utilitarian spells. In battle, Black Mages are often called upon to participate in skillchains by finishing each chain off with a magic burst, adding even more destructive power to a party's repertoire. Players starting the game as a Black Mage receive an Onion Staff and a Scroll of Stone.
Red Mage
Red Mages (RDM) are called the Jack of All Trades by many for their abilities to cast White Magic, Black Magic, and fight with swords and daggers. Though their healing, nuking, and fighting skills aren't as good as those of the specialists - White Mages, Black Mages, and Warriors - they are still competent. Their real strengths lie in their mastery of enhancing and enfeebling skills when within a party, and leveraging their many "trades" against their enemies when outside of one. Players starting the game as a Red Mage receive an Onion Dagger and a Scroll of Dia.
Thief
Specializing in covert actions, Thieves (THF) aim for the perfect opportunity to attack the enemy. Using Sneak Attack and Trick Attack, thieves can inflict massive amounts of damage while 'tricking' the enemy into thinking it was someone else. Thieves also have the ability to steal amounts of enmity from players in their party with the abilities Accomplice and Collaborator. These abilities help to control the party's enmity levels, and trick enemies into thinking that the party's tank is the primary threat. Players starting the game as a Thief receive an Onion Knife.
Thieves also have many tools at their disposal to get out of sticky situations in the game. Not only do they possess the highest Evasion rating in the game, but they also have abilities such as Flee and Hide, which allow them to escape most dangers unharmed. Additional abilities such as Steal, Mug, Gilfinder, and Treasure Hunter, as well as their unique ability to pick Treasure Chests and Treasure Coffers with their thief's tools, makes the Thief the optimal choice for acquiring gil and items.
